Sansottino is one of the Sangiovese “crus” of Casanova della Spinetta winery, in Tuscany.
The South-East exposed bineyard that lies in the area between Pisa and Volterra where the cellar is located, is characterized by sandy soil and oceanic sediments, that give a “Piedmontese interpretation of Sangiovese” as the winery states. This personality for sure fascinated owner Giorgio Rivetti reminding him of the style and soil of the Barolo area.
The wine is released 10 years after the harvest, making it the most ageworthy among the selection of the property.
La Spinetta winery decided to buy vineyards in Tuscany after about 25 years of experience in Piedmont, choosing an area relatively lesser known, but vocated to agriculture, so that the owner decided to restore the old plants of local indigenous varieties. This is why the vines of Sansottino are more than 30 years old.
The energetic and warm character given by ripe red fruit and wild berry taste is lifted by notes of aromatic and balsamic herbs and a good tannic structure. The result is a wine of great elegance, where the power is balanced by a fresh, spicy wind.

Careful management of soil and plants. Green harvest in July/August
Maceration and alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled vats for about 10 days. Malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels, followed by 24 months of aging. Then, bottle aging for at least 100 months.
