Description:

Prunotto winery is one of the rare occasions in which the numerous changes of ownership do not cause substantial changes in the wines, which indeed, despite historical changes, remain strongly characterized by a personal signature.
The project was born in 1904 as a ” Cantina Sociale “, with grapes coming from large and small local producers. But soon, due to economic difficulties, the business was liquidated. It is at this point that Alfredo Prunotto, one of the founders of the project, with his wife Luigina, decides to take over the property giving it his surname, making it famous and bringing the names of Barolo and Barbaresco all over the world.
In 1959, Alfredo Prunotto decides to retire from the business and leaves the property to his friend and famous winemaker Beppe Colla, former winemaker at Gancia, already active with his own production. Thanks to his experience in the sector, he is committed to the project of identifying the vineyards and parcels that can best express the local grape varieties and denominations.
Thanks to this mission, in 1961, the first Bussia Vigna Colonnello was produced, from a single hectare in Monforte of 35-40-year-old vines at the time of this harvest, in the most anciently well-known vineyard of the famous cru. Here, the soils of ancient formation in different geological eras, Tortonian and Ellvetian, which characterize the Barolo denomination, combine to give wines that are able to integrate the characteristics of both, making this vineyard a very special “unicum” within the Bussia cru and the entire Barolo area. The vineyard is located south-west, west at 300 meters above sea level, with soils rich in clay and silt with a percentage of sand and it has been owned by the Company since 1994. In that year, in fact, Beppe Colla and his brother retired in turn to manage the family business, handing over the production to the Tuscan Antinori family, great wine producers, who collected the long legacy, with the intention of continuing the study of terroirs and producing the best expression of the typical grapes of the territory.

Tasting Notes and Pairing:
“Due to the presence of soils of both “Tortonian” and “Elvetian” “composition, typically distinct and characterized in the area, it is said that this wine collects both characteristics: the finesse and elegance of the former, and the structure, power and longevity of the latter. Flowers, overripe red fruits and balsamic and spicy notes, united by pleasant and defined tannins and good acidity.
This wine is perfect with a game dish or with seasoned and spicy cheeses.q
Suggested serving temperature:
It can be served slightly more chilled, at about 17-18°C or at 19-20°C for a touch of warmth and softness.
Suggestion to open it about 1 to 2 hours before serving it. And let it breath in the glass as well.
in the vineyard:
The company does not follow a specific regulation. It is attentive to sustainable viticulture processes and over the years has conducted, studies on clones and soil characteristics.
Production method and aging:
Fermentation with stems (partially) in stainless-steel. aged in oak French barrels for 24 months and another 12 months in steel.
