Description:

Château Palmer is undoubtedly one of the institutions of the AOC Margaux and of Bordeaux itself.
The estate boasts vineyards that flank the estuary of the Girone river, characterized by a soil rich in sediments of the river, draining but poor in organic elements. Difficult for agriculture, but perfect for viticulture, this soil of great potential is also the greatest challenge of the company, which has been working for years to ensure the best balance between the nature of the soil and the effort of man to support it in the best possible way.
The name of the Château comes from a British general who, fascinated by the potential of these wines, bought the estates in 1814. Currently the property is in the hands of a consortium of investors, of which two famous families are major shareholders. The management has instead been entrusted since 2004 to Thomas Duroux, a well-known and interesting personality in the world of wine, with great international experience, among others also at Tenuta Ornellaia, in Tuscany, characterized by a passion for experimentation, who introduces the Château to the biodynamic approach and who kicks-off the golden season of this historic Bordeaux name.
The property produces only two labels: Alter Ego de Palmer cannot be defined as a typical “second label” as typical of the region. Born in 1998, it comes from plots completely different from the “first label” and is presented as an interpretation of “spontaneity”. Not only this wine wants to be approachable from the moment it is put on the market, but also and above all, it aims to express as naturally and spontanously as possible the terroir it represents.
Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are blended in an almost equal percentage. Since 2011, a small percentage of Petit Verdot has been added to the blend: it is the right balance that guarantees the quality of the wine, without predominance of a single variety.


Tasting Notes and Pairing:
Alter Ego de Palmer is characterized by a typical profile of sweet spices, tobacco and earthiness, combined with the richness and sensuality of black fruits. Round, approachable and extremely pleasant in the mouth.
2008 is undoubtedly included among the best vintages for this label. Exuberance, silkiness in the mouth but purity of fruit.
2009 is particularly soft and concentrated, with sweet notes and a long finish.
2010 is an amazing combination of a particularly spicy profile, with sweet tones, and an important structure with aging potential.
In 2011, the addition of 15% Petit Verdot stands out. A wine rich in hints of bright blackberries, aromatic notes, freshness and crunchiness, always embraced by the classic exuberance of soft dark fruits and a velvety texture.
Perfect with game, mushrooms and mixed vegetables in the oven.
Suggested serving temperature:
16-18 °C
Suggestion to open it about 1 to 2 hours before serving it. And let it breath in the glass as well.
in the vineyard:
Biodynamic since 2013, beginning in 2008. Attention to biodiversity, with the creation of organic compounds directly on the estate. Since 2013 there is also a reduction of sulphites in wine.
Production method and aging:
Stainless-steel fermentation, separate parcel by parcel. Aging in aok for 20-22 months (of which less than 50% new).
