Description:

Aldo Conterno is the son of Giacomo Conterno. Since the early 1900s, the family decided to create a long-aging Barolo Riserva, initially with the aim of being easily transported and consumed in South America, where the family had relatives. In 1969, after a period in the States with the unfulfilled dream of helping to create a winery and a following return to the family business, Aldo Conterno decides to embark on his own independent adventure, with a new company in the center of the Bussia “cru” in Monforte. At the beginning of the 70s, ahead of the times, he made innovative changes in the cellar such as a shorter maceration than was in use and the introduction of pumping over to replace the submerged cap.
As in the family tradition, Aldo Conterno also produces a special Barolo Riserva: his Granbussia, born only in the best years from the assembly of the three individual vineyards owned by the company in Bussia: Colonnello, Romirasco and Cicala. The latter, on soils richer in clay, undoubtedly produces the Barolos most suited to long aging: a little more closed when young, with extremely powerful tannins and an important body.
Aldo died in 2012, the company is now in the hands of his children.


Tasting Notes and Pairing:
Bright and energetic, with a silky tactile texture and strong tannins, softened only by the years.
Dark fruits and a fresh mineral and menthol note.
This wine is perfect with game meats.
Suggested serving temperature:
It can be served slightly more chilled, at about 17-18°C or at 19-20°C for a touch of warmth and softness.
Suggestion to open it about 1 to 2 hours before serving it. And let it breath in the glass as well.

Production method and aging:
Maceration and fermentation in contact with the skins for 30 days, aging in Slavonian oak barrels for about 28 months.
No filtering or clarification.

  • San Maurizio Wine Club is available to organize winery visits for its members with the Guest Producers of the project.

Upon subscription, you will receive email and whatsapp contact to plan your Wine Concierge appointment and your visits.

EVENTS

  • Members of the Club will be informed via email and on their personal website page of any event planned by the San Maurizio Wine Club for its members.

Events may be free or with an access fee and they may allow to be accompanied by a partner.
