Description:

The name of Marcel Guigal is no doubt rightly among those who have made great, in modern times, the wines of the Côtes du Rhône and not only. Internationally renowned producer, his work, in the vineyard as much as in the cellar, is synonymous with great quality, but above all of a practice respectful of the land and of the enhancement of local denominations and grapes.
Although born on land with a very long winemaking tradition, the Company has a rather recent history for the denomination: it was founded in 1946 by the oenologist Etienne Guigal and from the earliest years brought its small production to become a reference point for the entire Côtes du Rhône, raising the quality of its wines and committing to acquire a series of estates and prestigious properties.
The Company is established in Ampulis, a historic village for the denomination.
In 1961, Etienne’s young son Marcel, still a teenager, joined the company. Thanks to a great family vocation and a visionary talent, Marcel Guigal is today one of the greatest personalities in the world of international wine: all his vineyards are cultivated as low-intervention as possible and the wines, in the cellar, see long passages in oak, old and new, and no filtering, all completely innovative features for this denomination. His products, at more than fair prices, today undoubtedly represent a point of reference for every other producer in the denomination.
Hermitage is one of the most famous and sought after “crus” of the Côtes du Rhône, and the 1999 vintage is considered excellent for the region.


Tasting Notes and Pairing:
Considered among the great wines of this vintage, it immediately shows its grandeur.
Great structure, dense color that reflects the texture in the mouth: powerful tannins enveloped by hints of red fruits and spices, tobacco, wood. The mineral note and the good acidity give freshness and promise long aging.
Excellent with important meats, veal stews, lamb with a reduction and aromatic herbs.
Suggested serving temperature:
16-18 °C
in the vineyard:
Organic, no use of chemicals.
Production method and aging:
Stainless-steal fermentation at controlled temperature, with 4 weeks of maceration. Then, 36 months of aged in oak barrels, 50% new oak. No filtration.

EVENTS
