Description:

Emmerich Knoll is one of the most famous and promising wine producers in Austria. In 2019 his wines were reported among the best examples of the Country, on an already blessed vintage for the region.
The company is located in the Wachau region, one of the coldest areas of Austria, that belongs to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The valley, formed by the Danube river, is characterized by extremely steep slopes, which force the winegrowers to operate on terraces, with large temperature variations, whipped by the winds of the Adriatic and the Alps. The Knoll company is located in the area to the eastern part of the region: slightly more temperate, characterized by soil composed of rocks rich in quartz and shale. Grüner Veltliner, the indigenous variety of Austria “par excellence”, grows on soils at lower altitudes, where the nutrient-poor soil combine with the sands and alluvial soils of the river. The late harvest, perfect for this variety, allows a perfect balance of acidity and good longevity.
At its third generation of winemakers, the company never ceases to surprise for its elegant wines, expressive of the soil and variety: products that reflect a peculiar care and a unique style, in the vineyard as much as in the cellar.

Tasting Notes and Pairing:
The wines of this producer are characterized by their elegance, structure and complexity.
The nose is spicy, with wild herbs and white pepper. In the mouth, white pulp fruits that round-out the more aromatic notes. Balanced acidity and mineral finish.
Perfect with fatty oriental dishes of pork, mushrooms and vegetables or with a creamy first course.

Manual harvest, low-invasive practices.
Production method and aging:
Fermentation and aging in stainless-steel.

  • Membership includes a Wine Concierge service that will be at disposal of the members upon appointment for online and in-person meetings at Relais San Maurizio and in the area. The Concierge service will advice on wines of the San Maurizio Wine Club and Italian wine in general.
  • San Maurizio Wine Club is available to organize winery visits for its members with the Guest Producers of the project.

Upon subscription, you will receive email and whatsapp contact to plan your Wine Concierge appointment and your visits.

EVENTS

  • Members of the Club will be informed via email and on their personal website page of any event planned by the San Maurizio Wine Club for its members.

Events may be free or with an access fee and they may allow to be accompanied by a partner.
