Pascal Fullá’s wine adventure began in 1998, when the then-lawyer Catalan man decided to leave his career and devote himself to wine production in the south of France, in the heart of the Terrasses du Larzac, a stony, sandy-clay-over-Jurassic-limestone terroir that sits at the foot of the Larzac plateau, in Languedoc north-west of Montpellier.
This is certainly not the first example in the history of “conversion to viticulture”, but the experience of Le Mas de l’Écriture, the estate founded by Fullá, has undoubtedly won a place of great prestige among the wines of the region.
The ancient soils, rich in rocks and limestone covered by younger layers of sand and clay, have been enhanced by the producer thanks to meticulous care for the soil and for the vines. The yields are kept extremely low, not only with a hard work in the vineyard but with a careful selection of the grapes during the harvest, to maintain the highest possible quality of the product.
Pascal Fullá considers himself, in his own words, “a craftsman more than an artist”, with a long tradition behind him to respect and, even more than a market, with a series of customers and enthusiasts who appreciate and understand his work and are in line with his taste. Wine is communication and not for nothing the most important wine of the property, L’Écriture, bears the name of the gesture of writing: a blend where the noble Syrah predominates, with a touch of the other typical varieties: Grenache noir and Mouvèdre.
2001 is rated as one of the best vintages in the region and certainly the one where this producer had the opportunity to get noticed, receiving great scores and offering a wine of great aging, able to stand up to many other great local and national names.
