A Barolo telling the story of its land and soil: the cru “Marenca” in the Serralunga d’Alba municipality.
The vineyard, with calcareous-clay soil and west exposed, facing Monforte municipality, produces Barolos characterized by power and longevity.
Luigi Pira knows it well: he used to sell the bulk wine coming from his Serralunga vineyards in Alba, to those who were looking for some of the structure and complexity that the wines from these soils are able to deliver.
In the 90s, thanks to the support of his sone Gianpaolo, Luigi decided to bottle with his own label these excellences: his Barolos are austere but expressing and manage to convey the personality of the wines born from the soils of this area of Serralunga d’Alba. The producer’s role is that of carefully manage the winemaking process and the quantity and quality of oak, to allow this wines to express at their best.
Austerity and expressivity bond together in this wine: floral notes, underbrush and dark fruits on the nose, in the mouth is matched with a compact tannic structure, sweet spices and ripe fruit.
Tannins and acidity is balanced by the rich and round aromas.
Pair it with braised meat, mushroom risotto and savoury, complex dishes.
It can be served slightly more chilled, at about 17-18°C or at 19-20°C for a touch of warmth and softness.
Suggestion to open it about 1 to 2 hours before serving it. And let it breath in the glass as well.
Vinification in stainless steel for 12-15 days. Aging in tonneaux for 12 months and then big oak casks (35 hectoliters) for other 12 months.
