The story of this wine and of the cellar is intrinsecally linked to the character, now almost legendary, of Beppe Colla and of his father Pietro: two people who passed through (and helped writing) the history of wine in the Langhe.
A family tradition botn in Santo Stefano Belbo where already in the XVIII Centrury the family Colla produces and sells wine.
At the beginning of the XX Centrury, Pierto Colla keeps producing wine with his own grapes, while becoming the right-hand man of the Gancia winery, producer of the first Italian sparkling wine, where he lerns the champenoise technique.
His son Beppe keeps working in the field and in the 50s he purchases the winery of Cavaliere Prunotto, making it a world-wide renowned reality. He was the first to introduce the word “cru” when speaking of the terroirs of the Langhe: a milestone in the work of valorization of the denomination. At the beginning of the 90s, the Poderi Colla as we know it today was born and the family brings to its own property the heritage of their ancestors: to express in its wines the precious terroirs of Langhe and the purity of the grapes with a low-impact viticulture and a careful vinification, to allow the wine to express itself in the most natural and original way.
The Barolo of the winery is an example of their philosophy: born in one of the most well-known crus of Barolo, the Dardi subzone in Bussia Soprana was always prised for its soils and exposure and in 1961 Beppe Colla decided to reserve it for a separate vinification and label. With its warm South, South-West exposure and an altitude of 300-350 meters above sea level, the Barolos botn from this soil are elegant and with a great aging potential.
