Description:

The Pietrarizzo Contrada, since the last century, is considered by the natives of the area, one of the finest cru.
The used grape is Carricante
The production area is Castiglione di Sicilia, northern slopes of mount Etna.
In terms of extension, Tornatore’s vineyards are today the largest vineyard of Etna DOC in the production area. There are many districts involved in the vineyards of the winery: among them the prestigious districts of Crasà, Pietrarizzo, Malpasso, Pietramarina, Torre Guarino, Carranco and Trimarchisa, all in the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia. Very high vines-per-hectare ratio (about 6,000) and single cordon training system with 3/4 spurs is in use. The grapes cultivated are the native Sicilian vines provided for by the production regulations of Etna DOC wines. In particular: red berry Nerello Mascalese and Nero Cappuccio, white berry Carricante and Catarratto.


Tasting Notes and Pairing:
Pleasant hints of exotic fruits, especially of grapefruit and white peach, mark the nose of this wine which shows its true identity on the palate with a pleasant flavor and freshness complemented by an extraordinary minerality and light taste sweetness.
Perfect to pair with a meal of fish or vegetables, savoury starters, a spinach and ricotta quiche.

Production method and aging:
The grapes are harvested by hand in small crates and quickly brought to the winery where and manually selected on a beltconveyor. Destemmed and slightly crushed, they are sent to the vertical press where they are gently pressed. The must is clarified at low temperatures, and left to ferment at 15/16 °C in wooden barrels of 50 hectoliters before being bottled. After the fermentation the wine obtained rests on the lees for 5 months.
The wine ages for about 5 months in wooden barrels and 3 months bottle.
